About The Woolworth's Luncheonette

America's last surviving Woolworth lunch counter.

On the same original stools, behind the same terrazzo floors, Chef Richard Yoshimura cooks with the kind of care this place has always deserved. Classic comfort food made from scratch.

Fresh ingredients, Certified Angus Beef, and a lemon icebox cheesecake that earned its own feature in Bakersfield Life. Local pours from Dionysus and Kern River Brewing. A curated wine list.

Located at 1400 19th St, Bakersfield, CA 93301, The Woolworth's Luncheonette operates as an american restaurant serving Bakersfield in California. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it. Google also lists it under restaurant, traditional american restaurant, which is worth knowing if you are comparing several options in the area.

This group covers the non-Asian restaurants, cafes, bars and food businesses that also appear in a mixed-cuisine food scene, including American diners, pizza, Mexican food, burgers, steakhouses and bakeries. Standard US restaurant norms apply: lunch and dinner service with a quieter stretch between, cards and tap-to-pay accepted almost everywhere, and a tip of 15-20% customary for table service. Fast food and quick-service counters expect payment up front and tipping is optional. Bars check ID for anyone who looks under 30, and the drinking age is 21 nationwide. Many restaurants in this group take reservations online through third-party platforms, while casual and fast-food spots are walk-in only. Sales tax is added at the register on top of the menu price and varies by city and state, so the final total is usually a few percent higher than the posted prices suggest.

Bakersfield is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Getting around Bakersfield is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across California's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

What a great place! Everyone was friendly and welcoming. The hamburger reminded me of the ones my grandmother used to make simple, fresh, and full of flavor. The restaurant was clean, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere made for a wonderful dining experience. I'll definitely be back!

Woolworths Luncheonette looks very good on the inside and the dining area is classic Route 66 Diner Style except these counters go on for a long time in the Luncheonette a very good update for 2026. Shout-out to Katey for her recommendations. Every suggestion she made was spot on, and we ended up ordering exactly what she recommended. Her enthusiasm on deciding for us..lol ,definitely made our visit even better. Thanks, Katey, for steering us in the right direction! 😊 THE GRUB: The double cheeseburger delivers classic diner vibes with 2 thin smash burger beef patties, melted cheese, house sauce, and caramelized onions, crunchy pickles on their potato roll.( side note potato bread is the only bread I'm going to eat from now on) 4.5/5 stars .. only because the first bite the bun was a little overcooked,(ok it was burnt) and I'm not a fan of thin burgers but overall one of the better burgers in Bakersfield. The Reuben is rich and savory, loaded with tasty grilled pastrami,Swiss cheese, their house sauce, and coleslaw on rye. 5/5 stars says my friend. He honestly wanted to order one for the road but figured he could need it the fries with thin and crispy think of McDonald's fries but

Not a bad experience, but very sadden over the loss of the 50s theme which gave it such wonderful nostalgia. I use to come here alot before the change. The contemporary theme is ok. I dont like the art, should leave it in its original black and white. At least the actual lunch counter hasn't lost it charm and they offer other services they didn't before such as a coffee bar and spirits;^). The food was good, and the staff are so friendly and helpful. The price was not bad either.

A total blast from the past! I made a special trip (2 hour drive) just to go here. It brought back memories of when I was a kid. The food was very good. Burgers were hand pressed. Chili fires are crispy with the perfect chili for fries. They also have a bar as well as a coffee place too. Just know, there is no store there. Just the luncheonette. But it's well worth the visit if you're there.

We drove from 100 miles away to come here and have lunch and, it was worth it. It was a great day for a road trip. We arrived at about 10:55 and the doors were opened a few minutes later. We were warmly greeted first by a nice gentleman and then a young lady as we were viewing the menu. We went to the counter to order, we were allowed to customize our food. I ordered a cheeseburger and my wife had a Reuben sandwich. They were both delicious. The fries were awesome. Hot and seasoned just right. As we ate, we were twice checked on by staff to make sure we’re ok. The whole place was spotless and I felt very comfortable eating there. Overall, it was well worth the road trip and we were also impressed with downtown Bakersfield in general. Very walkable and a lot of things to do from clubs, restaurants, antique stores etc… We will come back again someday.
